Home Life

This week is our one-year anniversary of living in Idaho!

I never officially shared pictures of our apartment. Mostly because I feel like it's still a work in progress. We moved in, unpacked, Jon started work, I went to school, and there just hasn't been a dull moment at all this past year. Sometimes I feel like we're still unpacking. There are a lot of areas that I would like to have more organized, or more decorative, but that's what keeps things fun and exciting ;)

Here's a little perspective for ya . . .

Edwin August 2014 the week that we moved:

Edwin now:

Kate August 2014 the day we moved in:

And Kate now:

Does everyone remember when Jon was blonde??

Me and Jon now:

Oh man, the kid's room looked like this when we moved in!

And this also happened:

So let's get on with the Alston Home Tour 2015!,

First of all, you can see the Rexburg temple from the parking lot. It's small in this picture from my phone, but I just love how the temple sits up on the hill.

Now, onto our apartment!

When you first walk in you'll see a view like this:

Katherine has taken it upon herself to be our official door greeter. (Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of knocking on our door will know what I'm talking about.)

Straight ahead is the hallway, to the right is the shoe rack and shelf for keys and Margo's leash,

and then the dining area/laundry area/kitchen,

old picture. the bookshelves are no longer in the dining room.

holy fridge craziness!

and to the left of the entrance is the living room,
which used to look like this:

old ^

When we first moved in the couch was on the wall next to the door with wedding stuff hanging above it:

The computer desk was crammed between the door and the couch:

And now the living room looks like this!

We moved the book cases over from the dining room, put the couch under the window, and moved the craft/project table over. (That is our next major organization project.)

This way the record player is more accessible and the room feels more open. We also get a nice breeze from the window when we sit on the couch. (Our apartment also doesn't have a/c). Margo loves to hang out on the back of the couch these days and stare out the window.

it's sort of intimidating.

Moving on down the hallway . . .

The first door on the right is the bathroom.

It's pretty self explanatory.

There's a sink and a toilet too. (Whaaaa???)

Turning around there's a cute view of the hallway :)

One year ago, same view, when I caught a picture of Kate walking by giving her baby doll kisses :)

Turning slightly to the right you'll see our bedroom doors. The one on the far right is mine and Jon's room.

Pretty basic.

This is the room that still needs the most work. We always leave it for last. I would love to do a major overhaul in here and make it feel less like a storage room. (P.S. this is an old picture. The whole thing is practically filled with boxes now.)

When you walk in and turn to the right there is a built in desk :)
And my bike because I didn't want it to get ruined in the snow and harsh weather outside.

Turning back around and looking down the hall to the kitchen:

And to the right is the kid's room!

Can we just stop for a minute and talk about how much I love this picture frame?? It is still one of my most favorite pieces in the whole apartment.

 Voila! Kid's room:

Right now having two cribs in the room is a bit bulky. Kate's transitioned into a toddler bed, but I don't super love them overlapping with the window. Overall though I think their room is coming together really nicely :) It has super cute elements and a lot of personality.

Each kid has a shadow box with their blessing outfit, a canvas with their name and first year of footprints, and a shelf with their personal treasures, pictures, and fancy things.

All the kid's books and their scrapbooks are in here,

and the wall with the closet has personal artwork, maternity pictures, our baby announcements, and first family pictures all together :)

The wall not pictured has some more artwork and a play kitchen which is probably their most favorite toy of all :)

And that's our home! Definitely the best apartment we have lived in so far. Now you can all feel like you visited, even if you haven't. Which you all really should. Not that you should feel guilty, or anything. Except that really you should. ;)
